    o The requested operation could not be performed by Windows Resource Protection. To resolve this, restart your system into Safe Mode, then run the command.
    o Details of what the System File Checker fixed can be find in the CBS.Log %WinDir%LogsCBSCBS.log. To view the details of what the System File Checker fixed, please follow the instructions below.
    o It found some corrupt files, but was unable to fix them. Details are includ in the CBS.Log in %WinDir%LogsCBSCBS.log. You’ll need to manually repair the corrupted files.
  • If you get the final pair of messages, you might need to check the System File Check log. Follow these steps:
    o Open an elevated Command Prompt
    o The Start menu can be accesse by right-clicking
    o Select Command Prompt (Admin), Windows PowerShell (Admin), or Windows Terminal (Admin).
    o Findstr /c:”[SR]” %windir%LogsCBSCBS.log >”%userprofile%Desktop fcdetails.txt”
    o The details of the log will be copy to a notepad file on the desktop using this command
  • If the SFC process is unable to automatically replace corrupted files, the following entries might appear (taken from the Microsoft Support document on the System File Checker):
    o At 12:10:42 on 2007-01-12,
    o Information CSI 00000008

  • The user will then need to use the following command: takeown /f pathandfilenameem>Windows 10 Command Prompt takeown
  • Then grant access to: icacls pathandfilenameem>/grant administrators:F
  • Using the following command, you can replace the corrupted system file with a known good copy: copy sourcefile destinationfile

To download and restore system files, you can use the DISM command. DISM stands for Deployment Image & Serving Management.

  • From the Windows command prompt, enter the following command: DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
