QuickBooks Unable to Connect to Remote Server – Get Help & Support
Losing server access on remote access in QuickBooks will result in a networking error. These errors are definitely difficult to troubleshoot. In this article, we have detailed steps that the user must take if the server access on remote access is lost while running QuickBooks. Also, we have mentioned a few tools that the user can use to make things easier. In this blog, we will discuss about QuickBooks Unable to Connect to Remote Server.
Firewall and Security Software
Of all security software, Windows Firewall is the most notorious one when it comes to causing network errors. Windows firewall usually blocks network connections through certain predefined ports by default. This means that trying to connect through these ports will always result in an error; which Windows Firewall is running.
One easy way to check this is to disable windows firewall. To disable the firewall on your system, follow the steps provided below:
- Log into windows through an administrator account.
- Click on Control Panel.
- Select Firewall and Security Settings.
- On the left panel, Click on Disable Windows Firewall.
- Click Yes on the confirmation dialogue box.
Now try reconnecting to the server. If the connection is successful, then firewall was the main culprit. This enables us to move ahead and apply more permanent rules that will provide both access and security.
Note: To make the connection through specific ports permanent, we will be creating inbound and outbound rules. These rules will change how firewall reacts to network through those particular ports. You need to add rules for every port you want to allow network connection through.
To Set Inbound and Outbound Rules for QuickBooks in Windows Firewall, Follow the Steps Provided Below:
- Log into Windows.
- Go to start menu.
- Search for Advanced Firewall Settings.
- In the new window, select Inbound rules from the left panel.
- Now, from the right panel, select New.
- Enter Port number and Select Allow Connections through this Port.
- Now click on Outbound rules and Repeat the same steps.
- Restart your system.
As soon as you restart your system, these new rules will take effect and ensure that the connection is allowed through the port. This way, the continuous connection between your system and server will not be broken.
Company File Errors
Apart from network errors, company file errors can also result in losing server access. As the software crashes when it is launched, users will not be able to troubleshoot the issue. One great tool to scan the company file is QuickBooks file doctor. This simple to use software can scan the entire company file and repair errors.
QuickBooks Diagnostic Tool is another software that scans for both company file and network errors. If errors are found, they are reported at the end of the scan.
